The European Congress of Ethnic Religions recognises Ásatrú as an ethnic religion. As a religion, nine central virtues are recognised in the ancient texts.

Recognition as ethnic religion means: “By Ethnic Religion, we mean religion, spirituality, and cosmology that is firmly grounded in a particular people’s traditions. In our view, this does not include modern occult or ariosophic theories/ideologies, nor syncretic neo-religions.” In plain english, Ásatrú is not an invented copy/ paste belief but has actual roots in a people’s history and identity.
